Course Description

2 Week Techniques: Discriminations - Training for Total Control :: Diane Goodspeed

Learn how to train and handle discriminations easily and efficiently with your dog!

This 2-week course is designed to teach your dog how to discriminate between obstacles and to teach you how to set the line needed for total control over discriminations. Get rid of the fear and build a foundation to master any discrimination on any course! With some basic skills and a bit of control, you can successfully steer your dog through any equipment discrimination from the typical tunnel-dog walk challenge to the tunnel-weave challenge found on many international-style courses. The skill base is the same and applies to regular course flows, distance challenges, and gambles.

Course Structure, Requirements & Equipment

Level: Open to All

Course Length:

2 weeks (information/classroom available in read-only mode for 6 months after completion of course)

Course Structure:

  • This is a 2 week course that will teach you how to train and handle discriminations. We’ll start both weeks with a short description of the week’s goal, the skills being built or proofed, and then the actual drill layouts and activities. Many of the drills have a progression/variation chart to give you and your dog work beyond the two week class. We will focus first on the basic skills needed by your dog to handle a discrimination, including verbal commands for the obstacles and a timely redirect, and then we will put those skills to work on some short sequences. In the video reviews, I will work with you to get consistent body, hand and verbal commands so your dog completely understands what to do!
  • Discussions with other students in the class forum and the general forum.
