Course Description

The Cone Zone: Foundations, Fundamentals, Forever! :: Stacy Peardot-Goudy

This class will feature the ordinary traffic cone as the star! You will utilize this fabulous training aid to teach flexibility, speed, incredible tight turns, handler accuracy and patience, as well as a motivational tool to build drive on a variety of obstacles.

In this class you will be working with traffic cones as training aids and motivational tools! You will improve your handling skills by learning proper cues and patience while handling. Utilizing cones we will teach flexibility, speed and drive through turns, tight turns, and, initiate front cross work. We will be using cones to build speed and drive over contacts and jumps! You will be learning proper obstacle support and patience when we set up cone courses!! This class is for beginners all the way through advanced handlers, it is never too late to learn and always a good idea to keep a bit of foundation work in your training regimen! Come join the fun!

  • Weekly assignments, with discussion and feedback to videos posted in the forum
  • Discussion with other students (working and auditing) in the Class Forum as well as access to the general AU forums.
  • Access to Class Chat
  • Access to Faculty Office Hours

Equipment needed:

  • (working participants only): 6 traffic cones (size based on dog size), 4 jumps (preferably winged), A-frame, dog walk optional

  • 50 x 50 unless contacts are available, larger for contacts

Course Participation & Tuition Levels

Type of participation:

  • Working (posts responses to written assignments, posts videos of sequences, gets instructor feedback to all of these as well as answers to any questions posted, can actively participate in forum, chat and office) Limit: 15
  • Auditing (can view and read all videos/assignments/posts from instructor and working students, will get instructor answers to course-specific questions posted, can actively participate in class forum, chat and office hours) Limit: Unlimited
  • Observing (can view and read all videos/assignments/posts from instructor and working students in documents, links, forum and chat but do not participate in class forum, chat and office hours other than to read instructor, worker and auditor posts). Limit: Unlimited
