Make It Happen: Set Goals, Track Progress and Achieve Results! :: Kara Karsten

“Start with the Vision, Succeed with the Plan” - Dr. Larry Case
Are you tired of having a brilliant vision that doesn’t just magically come to fruition? In agility or other areas of life, are you busy, busy, busy doing what you think you should be doing, but don’t feel like you are accomplishing what you want, despite all the activity? Are you not even sure where to start to accomplish a goal that you have? In this class, you will learn how to define attainable goals and create the plan that you need to follow through and Make It Happen!

The Plan is the thing. Without the plan, it is just a dream, a nice idea. In this class, you will learn the secrets of turning your activity into results.

This one isn’t just about agility. Pick anything. A goal for your day job, a rehab goal for you or a competition dog, a fitness or diet goal, or an overwhelming task like a cross-country move or a career change. Anything!

Of course, it can be an agility goal, too. However, we don’t recommend the goal being a specific agility title, because even if you do all the right things, stuff happens that is outside of your control. If a title or a higher qualifying rate is your goal, we’ll help you reframe that goal to the things that you can control, and show you that while it is frustrating to see that NQ again and again, you can still claim success if you define your goals for the next trial more specifically to a specific obstacle or handling challenge that has been troubling you. You will enjoy that sense of accomplishment regardless of what shows on the scoreboard, and the Qs and titles will follow. Your emphasis will be in the right place and your relationship with your teammate will thrive.

We’ll help you put the structure in place that will guide you like a detailed roadmap straight to the finish line. Your plan will give you the motivation to proceed step by step, and prevent those feelings of being overwhelmed because you just don’t know what to do next. And we will be there every day to help keep you on track, or help you get back on track when you take a wrong turn or hit a road block. Kara will be able to access the Agility U faculty for even more sport-specific guidance!

Briefly, with the support and guidance of the instructor, first you will define an achievable goal. Then you’ll outline the plan and create the detailed task list required to accomplish the goal. Next, we’ll help you design a tracking system that works for you (it might be completely different from what others design for themselves). And then, with the ground work done, you can start to execute the plan. The plan itself will provide the inspiration, and with daily or frequent check-ins, the support of your instructor will provide additional motivation and help keep you on track. While the plan provides rigid structure, you’ll also learn to remain flexible because the first time you do this, even the 10th time, you’ll continue to find ways to improve the process and make it your own.
