You can clean-up a 2-on-2-off, convert to a no-stop zone or simply speed up a 2-on-2-off! The step-by-step drills work to clarify the criteria so they can be used multiple ways! We'll be identifying and training your criteria while building in a few simple corrections to ensure continuity between training and competitions. The emphasis will be on making sure your dog understands the dog walk performance. These are easy drills that don’t even require a full sized dog walk to begin! Dog Walk Woes to Wows! :: Diane Goodspeed

Turn your dog walk woes into WOWS! Whether you have a no-stop zone performance that ends too often in a leap or you have a stop that is slow or inconsistent or you want both options on a verbal, you will find the drills and exercises in this course to be very powerful fixers! You can start with a plank and migrate to the dog walk later.

This is a four week course with one simple goal: correct and clean-up your dog’s performance on the dog walk! It is designed to correct and fix a variety of problems including jumping the zone, stopping early, and a slow unsure performance. We will work one drill in a simple progression every two weeks to work on your dog’s understanding of the dog walk zone criteria. The drills work for any type of zone criteria: no-stop, 4 paws on, or 2-on-2-off (see note below regarding running). I will be working with each of you to use the exercises to clarify what you expect your dog to do. It is a fabulous methodology for going from a stop to a no-stop zone performance! It also works really well if you want both no-stop and stop on a verbal cue. The drills are intended to be done in short 10-minute-or-less training sessions and can be done with a slightly raised plank or a full sized dog walk. Skill development is dog training at its most basic so we’ll use lots of positive reinforcements and a few simple corrections to make sure your dog understands what to do and how. We’ll also get into some serious proofing to ensure that you get the same performance in competition.

Course Structure, Requirements & Equipment

Categories: Handling, Foundation

Level: Pre-Novice, Starters/Novice, Open/Advanced

Course Length:

4 weeks (information/classroom available in read-only mode for 1 year after completion of course)

Course Structure:

  • This 4 week course will help the participants analyze their current dog walk performance, identify the specific criteria and cues they want to use, and then work several different dog walk drills to complete and proof their dog’s performance. In a very time period, we’ll be going in depth on the dog walk to fix a wide variety of problems and/or improve overall performance. What do you have now and what do you want will be the first two questions! All the drills have a progression and are trained in short, easy sessions. We will focus on consistency – whether you want no-stop or stop - and then a few challenging proofs to ensure complete understanding! It is a fabulous methodology for going from a stuck to a no-stop! It also works really well if you want both no-stop and stop on a verbal cue! This is a short course on dog walk zones but you don’t need a full dog walk. A plank is okay too! Our goal is to focus on the down zone performance so you can do the exercises on a plank and then take them to the full sized dog walk when it’s available.
